Aftercare & Healing
Proper aftercare is essential for healthy healing and long-term comfort.
Healing times vary depending on piercing placement, jewelry style, and your individual body.
Cleaning
- Always wash your hands before touching your piercing.
- Clean your piercing as instructed by your piercer, typically using sterile saline solution.
- Gently remove any softened buildup around the jewelry without twisting or moving the jewelry unnecessarily.
- Pat dry with clean disposable paper products.
During Healing
- Avoid touching, twisting, or rotating jewelry unnecessarily.
- Avoid sleeping directly on fresh piercings.
- Avoid changing jewelry too early.
- Keep bedding, phones, headphones, and anything contacting the piercing clean.
- Be cautious around hair, clothing, towels, and pets.
Avoid
- alcohol or hydrogen peroxide
- ointments and heavy creams
- harsh soaps or fragranced products
- swimming pools, hot tubs, lakes, and ocean water during early healing
- unnecessary pressure, friction, or trauma
Jewelry Changes
Do not remove or change jewelry until your piercing is ready.
Removing jewelry too early may cause irritation, swelling, or closure of the piercing channel.
Professional jewelry downsizing may be recommended during healing.

Always follow your artist’s instructions first.
General Care
- Wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
- Keep the tattoo clean and gently wash as directed by your artist.
- Apply only recommended aftercare products.
- Keep the tattoo lightly moisturized — avoid over-applying products.
- Allow peeling and flaking to happen naturally.
Avoid During Healing
- scratching, rubbing, or picking
- soaking in baths
- swimming pools, lakes, ocean water, hot tubs, or saunas
- direct prolonged sun exposure
- tight clothing that causes friction
- heavy sweating if it irritates the tattoo
Healing
Surface healing may happen within a few weeks, while complete healing may take longer depending on placement and your body’s healing process.
